What Does Rectal Insufflation Ozone Therapy Do?
Rectal Insufflation Ozone Therapy Oxygenates The Body
The scientific community claims ozone therapy is versatile and causes a “cascade” effect, meaning it will start a domino effect of positive reactions. They claim ozone therapy increases oxygen efficiency and helps your body produce more energy.
Oxygen efficiency is different from breathing oxygen. Breathing gets oxygen into the body but oxygen efficiency describes how well oxygen is used.
For example, there are two basketball players, one made 20 baskets in a game, and the other made 18 baskets in a game, who is the better basketball player?
You would probably say, “The player who made 20 baskets!”
What if I told you that the player who made 20 baskets attempted 100? And the player who made 18 baskets attempted 18?
The player who made the 18 baskets would be better because of his efficiency.
You may shoot the basketball many times at the hoop (oxygen volume), but it’s important how many times the basketball goes in the net (oxygen efficiency). Ozone therapy claims to help people increase their oxygen efficiency.
In more “sciency” terms, a number of scientific institutions joined together in an overview of ozone. They state in their paper,
“O3 [ozone] is a stimulator of the transmembrane flow of O2. The increase in O2 levels inside the cell secondary to O3 therapy makes the mitochondrial respiratory chain more efficient. In red blood cells, O3-AHT may increase the activity of phosphofructokinase, increasing the rate of glycolysis. By enhancing the glycolytic rate, there is an increase in ATP and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) in the cell.”
AKA, they say ozone therapy is able to increase oxygen efficiency in your cells which improves the body’s ability to create energy. Many people report an increase in stamina, a reduction in brain fog, and improvement in overall energy, explainable by ozone therapy’s claim to stimulate the body to energy production.
While oxygen keeps us alive and healthy, oxidative stress is broadly viewed as a major cause of aging. I.e. It is typically thought that we can age slower and stay younger if there was a way to reduce oxidative stress.
Rectal Insufflation Ozone Therapy Regulates Oxidative Stress
What is oxidative stress? Well, oxidative stress is said to be, “An imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which can lead to cell and tissue damage. Oxidative stress occurs naturally and plays a role in the aging process.” Poor health choices and environmental factors can accelerate oxidative stress, ultimately leading to chronic inflammation, which is said to be the root of most chronic disease by Harvard Medical.
If oxidative stress is apart of chronic disease, inflammation, and aging, is there a way to reduce it?
Ozone therapy is versatile and causes what is known as a “cascade” effect, meaning that it will start a domino effect of positive reactions. According to lead researchers in this field, ozone therapy is able to mediate or reduce oxidative stress, increase oxygen efficiency, improve blood circulation, detoxify the body on a cellular level, and more.
Ozone therapy is interesting because it is an oxidant but is able to help regulate oxidative stress. A group of scientists, namely Dr. Velio Bocci, wrote something very interesting about ozone therapy and its effect on oxidative stress when they say,
“Severe oxidative stress activates … an inflammatory response and tissue injury … However, moderate oxidative stress activates …. free antioxidants and anti-oxidative enzymes …[which] protect cells from oxidation and inflammation … they may be able to reverse the chronic oxidative stress. Based on these observations, ozone therapy may also activate Nrf2 via moderate oxidative stress, and suppress NFκB and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, activation of Nrf2 results in protection against neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Mild immune responses are induced…”
In this short paragraph he is saying two things:
1. Too much oxidative stress is bad because it causes inflammation, the root of disease, and can make you prone to injury. As we age or become sick, oxidative stress increases.
2. The right amount of oxidative stress (like exercise) is good because it stimulates the body to work properly, producing elements that may reverse too much oxidative stress and stimulate an anti-inflammatory response, fighting disease and mediating aging. Ozone therapy helps the body to find the right amount of oxidative stress.
Does this mean ozone therapy could stop aging? By no means! Aging is a complex process, dictated by millions of factors. Dave Asprey, the Father of Biohacking, often says, “Aging is death by a thousand cuts.” Ozone therapy does not stop aging, but is it possible that ozone therapy could mediate aging and avoid many of those “cuts”?
According to my recent interview with Dr. Minkoff, Dr. Shallenberger did a study of individuals over the course of 15 years. The first group had regular ozone treatments and the second group did not. They found the group with regular ozone treatments had a much higher likelihood of living through a catastrophic event; car accidents, heart attacks, etc.
This opens the question, “Is ozone therapy a valuable tool for mediating aging, preventing disease, and decreasing the likelihood of death?” We don’t have the answer yet, but the evidence indicates ozone’s ability to reduce or mediate oxidative stress, a primary role in aging and disease.
Rectal Insufflation Ozone Therapy Modulates the Immune System
A healthy immune system is able to fight disease better than any drug.
In addition to reducing oxidative stress and increasing oxygen efficiency, ozone therapy is said to modulate the immune system, not necessarily “immune boosting”. Immune modulation is the ability of the body to regulate and bring the body into homeostasis, a state of equilibrium. If the immune system is overactive, like autoimmune diseases, ozone may quiet it down. If the immune system is underperforming, like infectious diseases, ozone may boost the immune system.
Ozone allows the body to balance its own immune system, a form of auto correction.
Dr. Robert Rowen demonstrated an impressive case study on a severe autoimmune disease, dermatomyositis. The patient received high doses of prednisone and other immune suppressing drugs, but nothing helped. By removing an oral infection and regular ozone therapy, Dr. Rowen claimed to reverse the symptoms and bring the immune system into balance
In addition to this case study, Dr. Rowen posted 23 video logs documenting success with ozone therapy for autoimmune issues.
Rectal Insufflation Ozone Therapy Improves Blood Flow
Ozone therapy is claimed to improve rheology of the blood, an important aspect of bringing nutritional elements to our cells and eliminating byproducts.
Healthy blood cells are able to fold, so they can fit into small veins. Blood should flow freely and avoid clotting together into clumps. Imagine the difference between water and molasses. Water is much more quick, fluid, and moldable, molasses is slow, thick, and sticky. Sometimes, our blood can become thick, slow, and sticky.
Blood rheology is a larger problem than many think, contributing to:
· Inflammation
· Circulatory Issues
· Malnourishment to organs and tissues
· Chronic disease
Blood rheology is not exactly known, does it contribute to the problems or do the problems create the poor rheology? This is the classic “chicken or egg” question. However, we do know, proper blood flow is a good thing and sets the foundation for the body to repair itself.
Dr. Bocci remarks on ozone’s ability to improve blood flow, saying,
“Recently important studies, analysed with modern techniques, have appeared clearly indicating that ozone therapy can produce a significant improvement in blood flow and oxygenation in ischaemic tissues: it appears that the more poorly oxygenated muscles benefited most from the therapy even though this result had been achieved after only two … ozonated AHT and detected an improvement of haemorheological parameters and an increased oxygen delivery to ischaemic tissues. Two papers by a Polish group have shown, in comparison to an oxygen-control group, the clinical efficacy of ozonated AHT in haemodialyzed patients with intermittent claudication, without any side effects (Tylicki et al., 2001; 2003; 2004; Biedunkiewicz et al., 2004). These results fully confirm the postulation that ozone, via ROS and LOPs, activates several biochemical pathways increasing the vascular flow in the ischaemic areas. Besides the vasodilation due to S-nitrosothiols and the enhanced oxygen delivery, release of growth factors (PDGF, TGF-beta and VEGF) from activated platelets greatly influences tissue regeneration.”
As said by Dr. Bocci, ozone therapy is able to increase oxygenation to needed tissues because of its ability to improve the “haemorheological parameters”, the blood’s ability to flow without restriction.
Furthermore, an interesting study revealed that intravenous (into the vein) ozone isn’t necessary because rectal insufflation is capable of improving blood flow. This study, among others, was able to demonstrate the effects of rectal ozone insufflation on the blood flow.
“…these gases affect some fundamental hemorheologic parameters when given by insufflation. … Our study showed an improvement in deformability, a decrease in aggregation and an increase in fragility … Therefore, more than two weeks ozone insufflation may induce adaptation to changes induced by ozone suggesting its systemic effects.”
Another advantage to improved blood rheology is improved nutrient exchange in the cells, which may lead to an improvement in the removal of undesired byproduct, A.K.A. detox.
How Could Ozone Gas Insufflated Into The Colon Possibly Benefit The Entire Body?
Interestingly, scientists were able to examine increased oxygen content up to 230% in rabbits after rectal insufflation. How could ozone into the gut do this?
Essentially, Dr. Bocci elaborated that ozone goes into the gut and quickly transforms into other properties. Ozone does not react with the gut wall, rather it reacts with water and proteins, which creates a domino effect of beneficial reactions. From there, the oxygen and ozone reactants are absorbed into the gut wall and into the bloodstream. All this happens almost immediately.
